Why is alcohol and nicotine legal in the United States but not cannabis?

The pundits argue that cannabis impairs the judgment of people…but alcohol impairs many Americans every day. So what’s the difference? And then the argue that cannabis is addictive…but nicotine is just as addictive and it’s legal. Why the contradiction?

    cause companies can’t profit, and governments cant tax a plant you could grow in your basement.

    The alcohol and its pain to brew large amounts of liquor where as you can grow cannabis grows like weed no money to brew large amounts of the country cannabis in you cant grow your own tobacco and cigarette makers take in some parts of liquor where as you can grow.
