What was the original reason to add nicotine to cigarettes?
And if you say “to make them addictive”, please provide reliable evidence to support your claim.

@JCS – I did not know that. I thought cigarette companies added nicotine to cigarettes. I always thought smoking a Marlboro or a Newport was more dangerous than smoking out of a hookah or rolling your own cigarettes.
