How long does nicotine and tobacco stay in your body?

My dad just got approved for a surgery and the surgeon knows he smokes and wants to do a chest x-ray and some kind of test to check for nicotine before he will do the surgery. He was a heavy smoker for over 20 years and has cut down to only 2 cigarettes a day if even. He now needs to quit completely. If he quits now, and does the test in 2 weeks, will it still show up? How long does it stay in your body?

    Nicotine goes away in less than days but pray about it there is purpose for everything we just dont understand things that way.
